Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider handles the query and supplies its results. Barry County Criminal History does not keep or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained long enough to review and answer it. We keep the message within our operation unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, the server may automatically receive basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring site, when one is reported
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as which Barry County resource pages receive visits and where sessions end. A browser can block or remove cookies, though doing so may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the provider that handles it
- Operating the site and maintaining page performance
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Measuring which resources are useful or need attention
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Barry County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Barry County Sheriff's Office, the 56B District and 5th Circuit courts, Michigan State Police CJIC, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search tools shown on some pages. Their privacy policies, not this policy, govern information entered into those boxes. Each provider sets its own retention and sharing rules. Visitors should read those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Barry County offices, Michigan agencies, court portals, legal resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's own privacy policy controls. Review that policy before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not control that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure site use and performance
- Search partners receiving a query submitted through their tool
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect information in our control. No online system is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such data is identified, it will be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights may differ based on residence and the law that applies. Michigan's Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs access to records held by covered public bodies rather than creating a right to private-site visitor data. Michigan criminal-history reporting and dissemination are addressed in MCL 28.243. For information this private site controls, a visitor may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Ask for deletion of personal data we retain
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Ask what personal information we hold about that visitor
